BANSURI.
THE MUSICAL CONSORT OF
LORD KRISHNA...
Bansuri
is among the most ancient musical instruments of India. The Bansuri
(Bans for Bamboo+Sur for musical note) is a North Indian side flute
made of a single length of bamboo and has six open finger holes.
There are no keys to produce sharps and flats, therefore all accidentals
and microtones, as well as meend and other ornaments, so important
to Indian classical music, are produced by a unique technique using
finger. The chosen instrument of Lord Krishna, Bansuri is one of
the oldest musical instruments of India. It is mentioned in the
Vedas and is depicted in the ancient Buddhist art. Objective: Keeping
the best tradition of Indian classical music, Swar Swar is manufacturing
and exporting high quality bamboo flutes – Indian classical concert
flutes, commercial sets, flutes for recording. Engaged in this field
since 1986, Swar Swar has put a lot of research and experimentation
into perfecting the art of manufacturing bansuris as they are custom-made
by master craftsman ATUL SHARMA who has been trained under the benign
guidance of one of India’s foremost bansuri exponents. It stands
out as the testimony of the quality of our manufacture that Guru
Shri Pt. Hari Prasad Chaurasia, India’s well-known exponent of bansuri,
likes to play the flute designed by us with Swar Swar emblem inceribed
on it.
Maintenance Tips:
Bamboo is a natural material, pay attention not to subject the bamboo
to quick temperature and climate changes such as going in an air conditioned
room from the outside on a hot sunny afternoon. If such is the case,
leave the instrument in its protective environment for 5 to 10 minutes
before taking it out to play. Playing a bamboo instrument outdoor
on cold day is not recommended. The hot breath passing through the
bamboo will make too drastic a drop in temperature in too short a
time resulting in sudden contraction of the bamboo which may result
in instant crack. The condensation inside the instrument should be
wiped dry after playing. The inside bore, the blowing hole, the finger
hole and the end grains should be oiled every few months depending
on frequency of use and climate. Use good quality/walnut oil. Any
other eatable nut oil can be used as well. The outer skin is very
durable, so requires no maintenance. The binding is designed to prevent
the bamboo from expanding and contracting too much which is the main
reason for cracking. It should not be removed and it won’t come loose
with normal use. The binding material, waxed nylon strings, will deteriorate
over time. When oiling your flute, do not let any oil get on the binding. |
